I'm not able to post the setlist, but Melissa did two of Michael Jackson's songs on the piano, I'll Be There and Let's Get It On! Her performance was outstanding of these pieces, and what she had to say about him was very tastefully done. During the singing of I Run for Life, she stopped and had some words about Farrah Fawcett, again very tasteful. Melissa is such a classy lady :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: She opened with Ain't it Heavy, and the encore was Piece of My Heart. Many of the songs were from the greatest Hits CD. She did Yes I Am on the electric with the harmonica!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: Also did Giant on the electric. Other notables were All the way to Heaven and, I'm not sure of the titlle, I Don't want to Love You!! Security actually allowed people up at the stage, but it was an extremely high stage. Another wonderful evening with Melissa!!! :wheee!: :wheee!: :wheee!:

Pretty cool I actually got a copy of the set list from one of the sound guys because I was sitting by the door right behind them that they were going in and out of.

Lucky
No Souvenirs
(supposed to be Nowhere to Go)
sang I've Loved You Before (per request)
I Need to Wake Up
Watching You
Chrome Plated Heart
The Weakness in Me
Yes I Am
Come To My Window
All The Way To Heaven
Giant
I'll Be There (tribute to Michael Jackson)
Let's Get In On
I Run For Life
I Want to Come Over

Last night was GREAT. I love the Sound board venue it was the perfect place for her to play! The tribute to MJ was very good with the white hand on the big screen behind her as she played the piano was very cool. She even talked about Farrah durring I run for Life it, was very touching and sad. I enjoyed this concert better then last years with just her and a guitar, it shows how an amazing performer she is. Cann't wait till next year when she said she will be back. I hope to see all of you there especailly Jackie, my Bf and I had alot of fun screaming and lauging with you. :clapping: :taz:

I completely agree...last year's shows rocked, I really loved them, but when I saw her Live and Alone for the first time in Palm Springs I was blown away and then Hammond and Niagara just further really convinced me that MLE's true talent shines through when she is on that stage alone. :rose:

THUD!!! Thank you Sandy for sharing your night with us. How amazing to hear MLE sing "I'll Be There" that is just so awesome, but what you've said about "YES I AM" on the harmonica and electric guitar ... OH MY GOSH! That is so awesome. WOW!!! So much greatness in that setlist ... thank you all for sharing. :peace:

"Let's Get It On" is actually a Marvin Gaye song. MLE used to cover it back in the day. it appears on some of those "unauthorized" recordings. ;-)

it's funny because i speculated on Twitter yesterday afternoon about what cover song she'd do in Detroit. i guessed Motown - most likely either a MJ song or "Let's Get It On" but i didn't think she'd do *both*. awesome!

and Watching You?! <thud>

I was lucky enough to be on a business trip to the Detroit area and my wife and I were able to go to the concert. We loved seeing her with her band last year and loved seeing her alone this weekend. I love watching her play guitar and when she is alone you get to see even more of her guitar playing. I also love it when she plays the piano. Her tributes were very nice. It is surprising to me that I still remember where I was when I heard on the radio Marvin Gaye was dead so hearing a Marvin Gaye song was also nice. I am so glad she still tours as often as she does because seeing and hearing her in person is a great experience. So Melissa, thank you.

Ohio, what a "small country" this is! How great are the chances that I would be sitting next to you, then see you in the fanspotlight? Very cool, and what a lovely surprise for your wife. Also a very nice write up! That was my cousin that I was with, she lives in Detroit, I'm in Pgh. She wants to go again next year, it was her first exposure to Melissa, and she was quite impressed and pleased with her performance! Have a good year!

Sandy, don't you just love taking new people to see Melissa! I was fortunate to get to do that in Niagara, my friend loves her music (calls it her therapy!) and she was SO impressed with Melissa that she is coming with me to Oklahoma in September. :)

It was great to see you in Chicago, Sandy, and I hope I get to see you again this summer! :)

Not to be disrespectful of Mariah Carey's rendition of I'll Be There, but I was fortunate enough to hear Melissa sing it the day after he died, and in my opinion she did an ourstanding job with the song on short notice, belting it out on the piano! I didn't notice if she was able to reach all of the octaves Michael had composed it for at the age of 12, but her rendition of the song and the gloved , seaqined hand appearing on the screen behind her was quite moving and brought chills! :clapping: :clapping: An amazing performance by the one and only Melissa Etheridge!!!

And I am sure she was not dressed like a tramp or squealing in octaves that could break glass...

I am sorry I just don't understand anything about MC... her voice is like torture to me and she dresses like a slut... which is her business but one would have hoped at a memorial she would have a little more modesty. :mad evil:

Sandy I am very glad you and many others had that experience. That is beautiful. We are truly blessed by the gift that is MLE. :group hug:

Thank you for sharing. I wonder if anyone has a picture with the glove in the background. That sounds very beautiful... and classy... no surprise there. Did she actually say any words about him or did she as she often does just let her singing say it for her? :rose:

Good night,

i think it's difficult to compare a performance at a concert attended by 1,500-2,000 people with one at a memorial for a pop culture icon in front of his family, gazillions of people watching from all over the world and with his casket on stage.

while Mariah's performance wasn't pitch perfect, it must have been tough to do with all of that pressure and emotions. she actually apologized for her performance on her Twitter page.

she wore a sleeveless floor length black gown with a plunging neckline. i think it was a perfectly fine dress for someone who was performing at a memorial. i certainly wouldn't describe it with such misogynistic terms as "slutty" or "trampy".

her performance was rather understated, IMO. it wasn't pitch perfect that's for sure, but i gave all of the performers a pass, because it couldn't have been easy with the pressures of performing with MJ's entire family in the front row, the gazillions of people watching and MJ's casket right smack in front of her. Mariah actually apologized for her performance on her Twitter page.

sure, i thought some performances were better than others. but under the circumstances, i thought all of the performances were fitting tributes.

considering you haven't watched her performance nor seen her dress, i think it's in rather bad taste to pass judgment on something you know nothing about.

a simple Google search would solve that, you know.

Well, now maybe because I posted this after watching the event but maybe you did not read it at that time, you may have thought I was passing judgement on something I knew nothing about. I knew about it... I saw it. And in MY opinion, with all of the talk of God and Jesus and knowing how religious the Jackson family was, I just thought it would be a little classier to have a dress with maybe a higher collar. As far as the terms misogynistic terms as "slutty" or "trampy" if they had shown a man with his shirt unbuttoned to his navel I would have felt the same way. To me it is about showing respect for both the man that has passed and his family. The family themselves were dressed very conservatively, and we have seen them in quite different attire also. To me this is a rather odd subject to focus on, especially as I HAD seen it. I also find it ironic as I try to make a point to not pass judgement on something like this without seeing it first.

a simple Google search would solve that, you know. I appreciate that thought but I had already seen the footage. Thanks though...

Thanks though...

that's not how you phrased it, Sue.

"And I am sure" implies that you hadn't seen it.

likewise, i find it rather ironic that in the "because 'we are the world'" thread you want people to stay positive about MJ despite the rampant rumors about his death, yet in this tour thread you have no qualms about slamming Mariah who performed at MJ's memorial in his honor.

very interesting.

Hey, I never intended to start a thread that would end up being negative regarding a performance at a memorial service! I got caught up in remembering MLE's performance of the song inDetroit, not intending to compare it to MC's at the memorial service. Seems I did do that, sorry! My bad!
We may not know how or when, But don't you want to know why?

Sue

I agree with you about MC dress. I thought it was in poor taste and she could have chosen another outfit for his memorial service. Her singing I thought wasn't bad at all. I've never been a fan but Ive liked her in the past and watched her perform on several shows. I know she apologized on her twitter but felt why?? I like her rendition of I'll be there and under the circumstances I understood if she was a bit off but still thought she did a great job.

I knew you had seen the performance and still agree with you about the dress and do not believe you needed to be criticized for your opinion! No one should be! :|

yes i too would think that it was very emotional for all that were on the stage during the services for MJ....and even more so knowing his family were all right there too.

and yes I too think MC could have worn a dress that was a little less revealing as it was a memorial service....but each to their own.

and yes yes yes....I too think that others should not criticized/or attempt to correct or tell you what you meant. We all have differences of opinions/thoughts/ideas/etc. which should just be RESPECTED by others.

1. Rhondda... you do not know what I am thinking or doing. I do not think that you can interpret my comments and decide what I implied. You would have to live in my brain and the last time I checked you were not there. You are incorrect about my having posted and when I saw the memorial. We are all entitled to our opinions and I was not slamming her I was saying I wish she could have shown better judgement in her attire. I probably should not have commented about her voice shattering glass.
2. Wow... NYB and IAM agreeing on something... hell has surely frozen over! Ha ha ha ha ha... thank you ladies for your comments... it's good to know I am not the only one that sees it from this view. I also appreciate your saying I have the right to post what I want.

All right you two have managed the impossible... I am laughing as hard as I usually do in the Hearts and Love thread. Bordering on snorting... a sure sign that my funny bone has been tickled! :clapping:

What is it with you two? :twitchshocked: Exactly how long have you known each other?

Sue

Very good question and here is the answer as its as clear as it was yesterday. I meet Marie for the first time at the Roseland NYC shows in 2004. It was the DVD 4-17-04 show. I clearly remember I had my friend Ginny join me for the Sat and Sunday show. She treated me for the 1st show but wasn't back in NY yet to join me. I remember meeting Marie and learned she won some tickets :D and her partner wasn't coming till later then pulled some fan off the line to join her for the sound check on Fri. I was told this story on Sat b/c if I had met her on Fri that fan would've been me  Anyway we meet again in the crowd where she had one of those 'moments" we know of many since then. This moment was even heard about on the behind the scenes dvd of Roseland. Way before the sophicated banners, Marie just held up signs like the rest of us  but don't kid yourself that they weren't unique. What Gin and I particpated in was at the end of the show. Right as the show was ending and we knew we were on camera and about 2nd row on the left, Marie, her partner and us held up 3 sheets of paper that simply said. "THANK YOU FOR THIS MOMENT" My guess is it was right after she sang the song of course :D When Melissa saw those signs she let out a big awwwwww!! She didn't remember what is was when she watched the footage back and we watched her watching it but she did say..'oh a fan must have held up a sign I reacted to" check the dvd folks, yep its there!! So that was our first kind of experience having a great time at a show!! Besides all the talking we did even before that. That was the start of some awesome experience we now know  :thumbs up: I'm sure there are many more great moments to come! ;)

NYB....where are you getting this information from.....

that is not how I remember how we met.

let me refresh your memory.

I went into tower records and you were also there in the rock and roll section. You were looking for the LUCKY album that had the special colored cd that would have won you a prize (can't remember what the prize was but I don't think anyone every claimed it). Back to the story, you were very carefully opening the shrinkwrap on the CDs and peaking in to see if the winning CD was there.....well I saw what you were doing and said this chic must be nuts or a serious MLE fan.

Well I did see you were wearing a MLE shirt, a MLE hat and you had some MLE pins on you as well. I said YUP this girl is a fan.

I did not say anything to you in the store, but believe it or not, when I went to go on line for the Roseland show there you were again. You noticed I had some signs to hold up and were very impressed.....you asked me to give you lessons in sign making and I told you its not something you can teach someone......you begged me, but again I told you its something that just comes from inside and it can not be taught.

So you decided from that day forward that you would focus your talents on collecting sights and sounds of MLEs great works.....which is an art in itself.

We banter on this board and in private she still begs me to teach her to make banners...and all these years later I keep telling her you keep making videos and I will keep making banners and the world will stay a happy place
