Melissa came into town and did soundcheck at around 8:30 am. The venue is beautiful, covered seating area with lawn seats in the back. The setlist is:

Ain't it heavy
California
Similar features
I need to wake up
Chrome plated heart
Shriners park
Angels
The weakness in me
Come to my window
Cover - still unknown what it will be
Place your hand
If I wanted to
Meet me in the dark
I run for life
I want to come over
I'm the only one
Bring me some water
Like the way I do
Piece of my heart

So cannot wait until tonights show!

The show was fantastic!!!!!!!!! I was in the second row pretty much center, just off to the right. The guitar work on the cover "Ain't no Sunshine" was outrageously good!!!! I was thrilled to witness it. What a musician, what an entertainer!!!!! She was sooo funny tonight and in very good spirits. She forgot the words to parts of "Shriners Park", but hey, the crowd was forgiving and found it kind of funny really. Met some boardies I hadn't met before and just had a super good time!!!!!!! :clapping:

The concert was alright. Can't say it was anywhere near the top of my list. My tickets were all the way in the 13th row. I think that had something to do with it. I wasn't down with the "real fans" having fun.

The people behind us were so nasty. Anytime we stood up they would yell for everyone to sit down. It got so annoying. The girl next to me yelled back that "it is a concert and people stand!" I thought there was going to be a fist fight or something. Besides the fact that the women behind me was trying to sing the songs so loudly it was hilarious. Especially when she kept messing up the words. Arrgghhh... It is late and I am very tired...

Angie and I just wanted to share some stuff. Just uploaded some great stuff from tonight's outstanding performance at Binghamton, New York. Melissa was on fire and the show was fantastic. Thanks to Karen and Angie, Mare enjoyed a 20-minute very special meet and greet with Melissa. Mare was thrilled and really appreciated it and had a great chat with Melissa about football and other personal things.

Here are the videos. Enjoy!

Clip of BMSW where Melissa eyes Angie’s lit-up water bottle, she had a small flashlight under the bottle, said flashlight also used to light up my Canadian flag.

What an awesome weekend! Lots of driving, but definitely fun.

Last nights show was terrific. I finally got to hear Place Your Hand live and it was worth the wait :) Thanks Melissa! Also, the cover was AMAZING! Her guitar work on that song was just so awesome. Got the entire song in video and will post it up to YouTube tonight. I forgot to bring my camera to work today...silly me.

It's very funny to me how she always wants to hear, AND answer people as they talk to her... At one point last night, a long drawn out "whaaaat?!?" came out of her mouth. She should put a couple of mics in the audience so she gets our questions and comments in her ear thingy's...LOL.

I had a hard time getting up for work today. I was supposed to be off today but since I got the new job only last week I couldn't actually take today off...so I guess I'm sucking it up and drinking a lot of coffee today...LOL.

Hope everyone has a great day!

The show was great !!!! I thought hearing Place Your Hand was awesome!!! I was in row H and thought it was great. I did hear some women yell sit down pleae and then someone said get off your ass. The cover song was very good. It seems that she is having fun with the cover songs and her choices are very interesting.

Looking forward to next years tour!!!

You must not have been far enough back to hear people screaming just about every song to sit down. They spent more time yelling at people than enjoying the show. All they did was complain over and over again, song after song. It was so annoying...

Awesome show and my first 'live and alone' concert! i have to agree with whoever posted about the women in the 14th (?) row...my friend and I were in the 10th and found them to be rude yelling for everyone to sit down. sheesh! i too, thought there was gonna be some throwing down, the woman who yelled the 'it's a concert, stand up' or whatever was right in front of me!

but that aside, what a great set. i loved, loved, loved 'chrome-plated heart', 'the weakness in me', 'shriners park', etc.

here are my photos on flickr!

Great show. We stood for the most part and had no problem with anyone saying anything. Great set list...Place Your Hand was amazing live and I haven't heard Similar Features in a while.

Mare had a great time at her M&G, she was very surprised.

It was a fantastic show...I ignored the requests to sit...drew second row tickets... WOO HOO...Hmmm...TMG...tell how you ended up in the second row!

I have 4 full videos...a ton of pics...I'll work on them shortly. Fun fun fun!!! Got to meet alot of people...my poor husband in pain the whole time but he still enjoyed the show...he did tell me after that when the girls in front of him stood he couldn't see Melissa...sorry Steve but ya gotta stand in a Melissa show!

After the show I did a bad bad thing. I jumped on stage and stole her towel and gave her water bottle to Kathleen

You know I had someone behind me keep poking me in the ribs to sit down, now mind you I was seated for all the slow stuff, but this chick was unreal, I finally said "hey it's a concert, if you can't see stand up like EVERYBODY else is doing" geez wasn't like I was holding up a sign or a bobblehead

Melissa Etheridge: And why she’s better to see live in Binghamton than Britney Spears. Most of the time.
August 24th, 2009
by Joshua B

Yeah, OK, Melissa Etheridge is a gay icon. And an environmental awareness icon. And a breast cancer survivor icon. And a rock chick icon. And a songwriting icon.

Jesus Christ, Melissa, leave room for somebody else to have a cause, would ya?

But more than all of these things, she’s a brilliant live performer. I had never known that till last night, and I suspect I’m not the only one who discovered it at the Anderson Center in Binghamton. Well, OK, Vestal; but she said Binghamton. “Are you ready to rock, Vestal?!?” doesn’t have the same ring…

See, what’s unique about going to a concert in the Bing is this: we get so damn few of them; we’re a lot more willing to go see a show from an artist that we maybe kinda liked just a little bit in college because their single was stuck in our broken CD player. So Bing concerts are filled with the unconverted—not the hooting, hollering, crying, shrieking, (maybe even) tripping concert-goers you’d find in the “big city”.

It took me a while to realize this; beforehand, I just thought that we were all f*cking lame. And I’m not convinced that some touring performers don’t feel that way when they show up here.

BTW, I heard one set of concert-goers last night scream at another set of concert-goers to sit down because they weren’t as excited about the show and they didn’t think that anybody else should be either.

On another BTW, I pretty much suck at listening to new music; what do you want from me? I work in radio. And if a lyric hasn’t been drilled into my head every four and a half hours before being used as the underscore for a Toyota commercial and the theme song for an Amy Adams romantic comedy, I have a difficult time sitting through its live performance.

But that’s what separates a really really really great live performer from, well, Britney Spears. Because while we all want to have sex with Britney (even the gays; it’s OK, you can admit it), we pretty much just tolerate her singing on the off chance that she may lose her sh*t on stage and rip her clothes off for no particular reason.

This is not true for Melissa Etheridge. (OK, maybe it’s true for some of the lesbians reading.) I, for one, am not sure quite why I liked her live show so much last night. More than 70% of the show was tunes I didn’t know. But it didn’t matter. It might have been her voice—which was in perfect form and didn’t sound any different from what you’d hear in a studio recording. It might have been her laid-back vibe: you felt like she could have been playing a bar as small as Frankie’s or a space as big as the Broome Arena, she’d be having a ball either way. I actually think, more than anything else, it was her chemistry with the audience.

She’s an engaging storyteller, and every lyric seemed vitally important when delivered live. Message songs like “I Run for Life” (her breast cancer anthem) and “I Need to Wake Up” (her Oscar-winning environmental anthem) which before seemed to me like “charity jingles” when they first came out, suddenly just worked. It’s impossible to deny that’s she’s genuine when you see her in the flesh.

I can’t tell you for sure if I’ll buy Melissa’s next album—I’ve never been blown away by her CDs; but I can tell you I won’t miss her next concert. Unless Britney Spears is in town. And having a breakdown. Half-naked.

Now that’s entertainment.

PS: We interviewed Melissa on the Star Morning Show. She was just as cool to speak to by phone as she was live in concert.
