Quebec City, Canada - July 23rd

Postby dogrescuergirl on Wed Jul 16, 2008 6:14 pm

Well, I caved...I changed my plans for my trip to Toronto so that I am now arriving early in Quebec City the 23rd, attending the show there (where I scored a pit seat today!), then flying to Toronto the following day.

So...is anyone else here going to QC?

Thankfully, Camille will be there so I'll have someone to speak English with! :wheee!:

Bonne nuit, le sommeil serré!

RAISES HAND I AM. I am doing all of the Canadian shows, and KAT you can speak English to me. It is the 400th anniversary of Qubec City so I expect it to be busy.

Yes, I found that out when trying to book a hotel...most hotels were $500-$600/night then my friend in Toronto told me about the anniversary. I did find a good one not far from the venue for $148 though. :)

I'd like to catch up with you and say hi...maybe if I PM you my cell number you can text me with your ticket location when you get your ticket then I can come find you and say hi. :)

I have been to Quebec many, many times but always to Montreal/Laval so this is my first time in Quebec City also. :)

WOW :clapping:

Eagle and I were so sorry that we just could not fit the Quebec City concert into our schedule. It felt so strange last night to know there was a concert going on in Canada and not be there. We heard from Originalangie that as usual Melissa rocked :clapping: :wheee!: !

Don't know the whole set list but apparently Melissa did Nowehere to Go and The DIfferent. We hadn't heard either of them yet this tour and I was so hoping that she'd play them in Toronto since that is our last concert this tour :bawling:

Given that there are only two more concerts before Massey Hall though, I suspect the odds of her playing either of them again in Toronto on Monday are pretty slim. If not, it will be my first tour without hearing Noweher to Go :cry: ....

Oh well....we'll just keep buying lotterty tickets in the hope that we can get to another concert or two ;) .

Hope everyone who was in Quebec City has a chance to do a little sightseeing. It is a beautiful old city and with the 400th birthday celebrations going on, I'm sure that it will be hopping!!
There are some things in my life
I'll never understand
But they become the force
That makes me who I am....

Janet wrote:HOW did you get such a great seat so late???

Oddly enough, I called the venue directly last week and since I bought a single seat, I lucked out...my seat was third row...but of course being with Angie, Dawn, Mare, and Camille...there was to be NO sitting down! The security was almost non-existent and at this venue, the first row was literally a foot from the stage. So we were chatting at the stage area, then the lights dimmed, so we just stayed there and that's where we spent the whole show, it was excellent.

Also, there is an orchestra pit that they cover up with this temporary flooring and the flooring is flexible so this floor extended from the stage back about six-eight rows and you could literally feel the whole floor shaking during many of the rockin songs, it was excellent. We joked that we were waiting for the whole floor to give and 300 people to go crashing into the orchestra pit :lol:

Oh...and I meant to mention...we noticed that the crowd at this show had a very large contingency of men and straight couples...and the men were buying MLE shirts, putting them right on, and rocking out the whole show. :)

WOO HOO!!!! I have 2 tickets to Columbus but I am going alone so I am really hoping to get up to a single seat somewhere up front.

And an advantage to being up front? It's so loud up there people can't hear me singing every song!!! :wheee!:

i just found an article that appeared in Le Soleil/Quebec about last nite's show.

here's the link: http://www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20080 ... 5/CPARTS04

here's the article:

~~~~~
Image
Melissa Etheridge a offert hier soir une performance branchée sur le 220 à une foule d’inconditionnels. Le Soleil, Yan Doublet
Le jeudi 24 juil 2008
Énergique voyage dans le temps avec Melissa Etheridge
Geneviève Bouchard
Le Soleil
Québec
Son diagnostic de cancer, Melissa Etheridge l’a appris alors qu’elle était en tournée à Ottawa. La chanteuse, maintenant bien guérie, a fait cette confidence... et bien d’autres, hier, pendant un spectacle des plus chaleureux présenté au Grand Théâtre.
«Un jour où tout semblait s’être placé dans ma vie, l’univers a décidé de m’envoyer en voyage», a-t-elle raconté à propos de sa maladie, ajoutant y avoir saisi l’occasion de méditer et de trouver le bonheur dans l’immobilisme. «Si vous sentez que vous travaillez trop, que tout va trop vite, écoutez-vous! Ralentissez!» a conseillé l’auteure-compositrice-interprète au public conquis qui était venu l’accueillir.
Hier, toutefois, l’heure n’était pas aux ralentissements : c’est plutôt une performance branchée sur le 220 qu’a offerte Melissa Etheridge à une foule d’inconditionnels, déjà debout et prête à faire la fête avant même que la chanteuse n’ait ouvert la bouche.
Pendant sa généreuse prestation, la rockeuse s’est payé un retour dans le temps. S’excusant d’abord de ne savoir que quelques mots de français, elle ne s’est pas gênée pour ponctuer, en anglais, ses pièces musicales avec des monologues souvent rigolos, inspirés de diverses époques de sa vie : son départ de la maison pour réaliser son rêve de devenir célèbre, son orientation sexuelle — «J’avais une attirance étrange pour chacune des Charlie’s Angels!» a-t-elle blagué — et plusieurs de ses tribulations amoureuses...
Le périple dans le passé a également été musical. Si les pièces de son dernier album, The Awakening, paru en 2007, étaient à l’honneur, Melissa Etheridge n’a pas privé ses fans de certains succès plus anciens qui ont soulevé la foule : Bring Me Some Water (1988), No Souvenirs et You Can Sleep While I Drive (1989), I’m the Only One et Come to my Window (1993). Elle a aussi interprété d’une manière sensible la chanson thème du film d’Al Gore, An Inconvenient Truth, pour laquelle elle a reçu un Oscar.
Sur scène, Melissa Etheridge s’est entourée d’un groupe solide qui donne du punch même aux pièces plus introspectives. Notons à ce propos la complicité évidente que la musicienne partage avec le guitar hero dans l’âme Philip Sayce, qu’elle a enlacé le temps de jouer un solo... sur la six cordes bien accrochée au jeune homme!
~~~~~

from what i could understand, it sounds like a good review. i am especially interested in what it said about Philip so i can use it for his fansite! could someone please translate this for us??? thanks!

OMG WHERE TO START.

We took the train dowm from Ottawa-Montreal then had a 96 minute layover until our train for Quebec City arrived. we got in around 4:16pm and took a cab to our hotel. He was driving so fast and reckless, that he hit the end of someone's car and after stopping for a few seconds, to which I then said "I don't think he stopped. I don't see anyone" He just DROVE OFF. Our hotel was in STE-FOY not Quebec City as I was told, so Matt and I were pissed becuase it meant 22.00 cab rides for us. Then as luck would have it, Giant (Karen) was staying there too, so she gave us a ride to the venue and back to the hotel. (we pressed the elevator button, and when the doors opened there she was.)So off to the venue we went to pick up our tix. When I got the box office, she swiped my credit card thinking I was picking up reg tix. I said no I am here for FAN CLUB TIX. Anyways I signed the envelope, and when I opened up the envelope, my jaw dropped.I got FRONT ROW DEAD CENTER AGAIN!!!! I was so surprised. I wanted to get front row in Toronto, as I am bringing an mle concert virgin, and I want her to have an amazing time, and get to experience a show form the front row. After that We took Giant out to dinner, and since a) I was pressed for time, and b) we couldn't see any other places to eat, we eat at a fany place next door to the theater. The waiter must have thought we were weird. I mean me and Matt in jeans, and Karen in shorts. We wer so not dressed for this place. Then we walked back to the theater and talked to some people that have done all of the shows we have, and waited. I went and bought the brown t-shirt and the Awakening folio (song book). When I realized that it was 5 minutes till I had to meet Stephanie, I frantically started looking for the doors to AA as her note said Jared Meet me at 7:15pm at the door entering rows AA. If you are looking at the stage,it will be the doors to the right. THANK YOU. I went back to the box office, and they didn't have a clue. Finally I find someone to help me, and sure enough There was Stephanie on the stairs waiting for me. Matt and I were lead into an area and told to wait, and then they said we could go in. It was just Matt and I and some of her crew. She walked in and said hi, and then shook our hands and asked our names. We asked about the rare songs, and she said that in about 1,5-2 years she'd have to do a solo tour and then she could do play them and play where didn't this time. She thanked us for our work,siad not to worry about the ushers, and signed my Awakening CD and Matt's Bring Me Some Water LP single. We mentioned Ottawa 2004 and how bad it was #1 and $2 was better (but we weren't there) she laughed and said yeah and some other stuff about the crowd. I asked her if she saw the big grey haired lady in Ottawa that was falling asleep at the stage, and then waking up and giving people dirty looks. She said no and thought it was funny that she missed that. I gave her a fan letter asking for Nowhere To Go, Secret Agent,Similar features (for my friend) and some other ones in Toronto.

Ok so the show started at exactly 8:00pm and eneded I think at 10:36. I was about 10-15 minutes shorter then the others ones so far this tour, but hey she rocked the joint. When she came out for the encore she was wearing one of those cheap plastic hats. It was blue with the Quebec fleur de lis ? on it. She eventually threw it into the crowd. When she did Like The Way I Do she went to the far ends of the left and right sides of the stage and rocked. It was so HOT. After the show we waited for her to come out and when she did it was very fast and my 2 pics I took are crap. I got Phillip to sign my Awakening CD, and wow he is so cool. I found a place called Le Lodge resto bar so we went there for drinks, (very small) and we chatted and then headed back to our hotels.

Setlist which I nabbed was

All There Is
All American Girl
I Take You With Me,(THIS WAS NOT PLAYED)
Nowhere to Go
California
No Souvenirs
You Can Sleep While I Drive
An Unexpcted Rain
Bring Me Some Water
I Want To Come Over
Angels Would Fall
I'm The Only One
If I Wanted To
The Different I(omg my fave song of hers)
I Run For Life
2001
I Need To Wake Up
Message To Myself
Come To My Window
All We Can Really Do
Kingdom Of Heaven
Open Your Mind
The Awakening

Encore
Not Tonight
Like The Way I Do

I took a bunch of pictures, and I will post them soon.

I may be doing the VT show as a kind fan offered to drive me and Matt there and back, as she is going to the show. I am so excited right now.

Phillip signed my concvert stub and was over the moon when I compared him to Lindsey Buckingham for his great guitar playing ability. Meeting Melissa and very brief but was worth the wait!!!. She was very kind and gracious. I got to meet many people from either the boards are from the various MLE concerts I have done. Afterwords A bunch of us boardies went to a bar for drinks and had a blast talking all things Melissa. I can't wait for VT (Here's Hoping) and

okay...i tried to translate this (i used alta vista, which has never been the best for translations):

Sur scène, Melissa Etheridge s’est entourée d’un groupe solide qui donne du punch même aux pièces plus introspectives. Notons à ce propos la complicité évidente que la musicienne partage avec le guitar hero dans l’âme Philip Sayce, qu’elle a enlacé le temps de jouer un solo... sur la six cordes bien accrochée au jeune homme!

and got this, which is obviously the literal translation, but it doesn't really make much sense, at least to me:

~~~~~
On scene, Melissa Etheridge was surrounded by a solid group which gives punch even to the more introspective parts. Let us note obvious complicity on this subject that the musician divides with the guitar hero in the heart Philip Sayce, that it intertwined time to play a solo… on the six cords fixed well on the young man.
~~~~~~~

please help!!! thank you! merci beaucoup!

The only way you meet Melissa is either through a MEIN pre-arranged travel package (such as meet & greet, Q&A session, etc.) or like Matt did through the "MEIN Messenger" program which is a program they offered this tour whereby if you promoted the concert in your city and took pictures of what you did to promote it and sent it to MEIN, if you did a kickin' job of promoting, you would get given a choice of a few things like a front-row upgrade or meet Melissa before the show. I think what you are offered depends on the venue and what else Melissa has going on before the show. Because Matt and Jared were doing several shows, they were lucky enough to get to meet Melissa at the Quebec show for their MEIN Messenger reward.

No problem! I did the Q&A in New York and was lucky enough to meet Melissa, even if just briefly to shake her hand and tell her it was a pleasure to finally meet her but the Q&A session was wonderful. It was an opportunity to have a good dialogue with her about any questions with respect to her music, her career, her thoughts on the future, etc. I really quite enjoyed it and I'm glad I did it. :)

Oh you know, in French we often use Many words to say very little. :laughing:

This paragraph simply says that MLE has a great band helping her to give power to her songs even to the slowest ones. It also says that MLE and Philip seems to get along very well on stage and that Philip gives great performances with his six cords guitar.

Hello Eagle,

I tried to translate the text for you. It's probably not perfect but i'm sure that it isn't worst then AltaVista.
(at least, I hope)

;)

Energetic time travel with Melissa Etheridge

Melissa Etheridge has learned her diagnosis of cancer when she was on tour in Ottawa. The singer, now well healed, made the confidence ... and many others yesterday during a very warm performance presented at the Grand Theatre.

One day when everything seemed to be settled down in my life, the universe has decided to send me on a trip, "she told about her illness, adding having the opportunity to meditate and find happiness in inaction. "If you feel that you are working too much, that everything is too fast, listen to yourself; Slow down!" said the author-composer-interpreter to the public who came to welcome her.

Yesterday, however, it wasn’t time to slowdowns: but rather a electrifying performance that Melissa Etheridge has offered to a crowd of fans, already standing and ready to party even before the singer has opened her mouth.

During her generous performance, the rocker offered herself a trip back in time. Apologizing first for knowing just a few words in french, she wasn’t embarrassed to punctuate in english her songs with monologues often funny, inspired by various periods of his life : she left home to pursue her dream of becoming famous, sexual orientation - "I had a strange attraction for each of the Charlie's Angels!" she joked - and several of his tribulations in love ...
The journey in the past has also been musical. If parts of her latest album, The Awakening, published in 2007, were in the spotlight, Melissa Etheridge has not deprived her fans of some old success who raised the crowd: Bring Me Some Water (1988), No Souvenirs and You Can Sleep While I Drive (1989), I’m the Only One and Come to my Window (1993). She also interpreted in a sensitive way the theme song of Al Gore movie, An Inconvenient Truth, for which she received an Oscar.

On stage, Melissa Etheridge was surrounded by a strong group that gives even more energy to the more introspective pieces. Especially a obvious complicity connection that the musician shares with the guitar hero in the soul, Philip Sayce, that she embraced the time of a solo ... on the six strings attached to the young man !

With the big number of fans MLE has , wouldn't it be funny if they all did this "tongue shake" in the same time.

Really appreciate the discussion and photos and the jolliness of how to meet Melissa...tongue wiggling....wow, wouldn't 2000 tongues be great? Also interested in the diversity of the audience, which included heterosexual couples. We saw the same in DC and actually were one of them. Maybe one small way in which MLE and her musical genius and heroic personality is helping to change the world. After all....there is no us and them, she sang.

Great admiration for all of you who follow the tour and go to many concerts...am also a little in awe of your budgets to be able to do that. Since I only go to one per tour, I am delighted that we get to hear of the others through this forum
and to see pictures and the occasional video.
